Cut in shortening and butter until mixture is fine. Add milk; stir with a fork until all flour is moist. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead&lt;br /&gt;gently for 20 seconds. Wash and dry the&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; strawberries.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Cut the tops off of the &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;strawberries&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;3. Slice the berries.&lt;br /&gt;4. Hull the berries, sweeten and mash them slightly with a spoon, and stand aside.&lt;br /&gt;  2. Sift the salt and baking powder with the flour and cut in the butter; add sufficient milk to make a dough, stirring with a fork.&lt;br /&gt;  3. Mix quickly, and put it at once in a greased baking pan, and bake in a quick oven thirty minutes.&lt;br /&gt;  4. When done, cut the crust with a knife and pull open the cake.&lt;br /&gt;  5. Spread it thickly with butter, and put in the berries, reserving some for the top.&lt;br /&gt;  6.
